What it does

The jointed wooden figure that sits on art-room shelves, on a screen. Drag a hand and the arm follows, drag a foot and the leg follows, tap any part to turn that joint. Then pose it after a sculpture, light it and draw from it.

  • 65 poses in the library, after Greek and Roman sculpture, Michelangelo, Bernini and Rodin, fashion photography, ballet, sport and fighting games. Each says where it comes from.
  • Four sculpture groups: Apollo and Daphne, Laocoön and his sons, the Rape of the Sabine Women and The Kiss, each figure its own height and build.
  • Five studio lights (a 45° key, rim, top, under and Caravaggio's one hard light in a dark room), or drag the sun round the figure yourself.
  • Drawing sessions as a life class runs them: 30-second gestures up to a 20-minute pose, with a line of action, a head grid, boxes for the masses and a plumb line to check against.
  • A daily exercise, about 13 minutes: one pose a day, the same for everyone, a different focus each day of the week, then drawn again from memory. Add a photo of your drawing and the month fills up with them.
  • Pose from a photo: add a picture of someone and the figure takes their pose, worked out on your phone, not on a server.
  • Draw a line of action over the figure and it bends to follow the curve.
  • Take it with you: a picture, a front, three-quarter, side and back turnaround sheet, a link to the pose, a 3D model (glTF) or a statue to 3D print (3MF).
