What it does

A name appears over a satellite globe with no labels on it. Tap where you think it is. Then it lights up with its flag, its neighbors, its cities and the landmarks nearby, so the next time you have something to find it by. The ones you miss come back until you know them.

  • The answer, in context. Your pin and the answer, framed together, with how far off you were. Well off, and it draws the parallel the place sits on: “Same latitude as Italy and Bosnia and Herzegovina.” Land in the wrong country and it says how the two relate, and asks you the other one soon.
  • Misses come back. A few rounds later, then after ten minutes, a day, four days, two weeks, and further out each time you get it.
  • Ten pools (sets of places to learn): countries (or one continent at a time), capitals, major cities, US states, and the states or provinces of Canada, Mexico, Australia and Brazil, Survivor filming locations, and landmarks like deserts, seas, ranges and lakes.
  • What’s lit up? Now and then a country you’ve met lights up and you pick its name from four nearby.
  • Daily Five: the same five countries for everyone each day, with a result you can share.
  • Stats: a world map colored by what you know, and the places you most often mix up.
  • On a touch screen the pin waits for you to drag it and lock it in. On a keyboard, keys pan, zoom and drop the pin.
